The Child Development Association began as the dedicated effort of a small group of concerned citizens who volunteered their time and talents to ensure that low-income children received the attention, care and education that they needed. Forty years later, the CDA has grown tremendously to serve 168 children, to have eleven classrooms and an annual budget in excess of $1.5 million. But, the CDA is as volunteer-driven today as in 1967. Everywhere you look at the center, you see the unmistakable mark left by volunteers: all kinds of volunteers doing all kinds of things. Individuals, corporate groups, Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs, Girl Scouts, Garden Clubs, Woman’s Clubs, Sunday Schools, teenagers, and senior citizens who read to the children, who gather food donations from local groceries, who serve on our Board of Trustees, who paint our classrooms, who plant begonias at the entrance, who bring books and classroom supplies, who serve on our event committees, who create murals for our walls, who donate baby wipes, among a million other contributions of their time and skills. We undoubtedly have a need that you could fill, if you are looking for an enormously rewarding way to spend a few hours sharing your gifts with our children.
