STRONG COMMUNITY: Happy 40th Birthday!

Fortunately for our community, a dedicated group of civic leaders recognized the need for affordable childcare back in 1968, and the Child Development Association was born. In 2008, the CDA turns 40 years old.

Exorbitant preschool fees often preclude low income families from finding affordable childcare. The CDA offers an opportunity for these many families to receive exceptional care for their young children as they struggle to balance the household budget. The CDA serves children from 3 months to 5 years, offering a full range of programs so that when the children graduate to attend the Fulton County School kindergartens, they are on grade level. CDA students currently feed into 17 North Fulton schools, including the areas of Sandy Springs, Roswell, Milton, Alpharetta and Johns Creek.

In celebration of its 40th Anniversary, the CDA is hosting a series of three events.

  • On February 13th, Roswell Mayor Jere Wood and Alpharetta Mayor Arthur Letchas hosted a very successful Founders Day Luncheon at The Metropolitan Club in Alpharetta, with support from leaders in the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce. A joint city proclamation was made, as business and civic leaders gathered to recognize the importance of the CDA programs to the educational development of low-income children who live in our community.
  • Kimberly-Clark is hosting a community-wide celebration for families, The Pinwheel Party, on their Roswell campus Sunday, April 13th from 2 – 4 PM to kick off the Georgia Week of the Young Child. The Guinness Book of World Records has been invited to participate as a record is broken for the swirling of pinwheels by attendees. Everyone is invited to participate in a fun afternoon of arts, crafts, and birthday celebration honoring the CDA.
  • The culmination of the 40th Anniversary will be a black-tie gala at the Country Club of Roswell on May 2nd, Great Starts, Bright Future 2008, featuring dinner, big band music, dancing and auctions. This annual fundraiser will offer corporate and civic sponsorships and individual tickets to raise moneys for the CDA scholarship program. [reserve tickets here]
